After the massive disappointment of crashing out of the Champions League against Juventus, Atletico Madrid will need to bounce back in order to not lose further ground in the race for LaLiga Santander.

The good news for Atletico is that Diego Simeone is an expert in lifting his side in the immediate aftermath of an elimination or a lost final.

Atletico‘s record after a European disappointment is six wins and three draws, one of which was a 1-1 tie at the Bernabeu en route to claiming the Supercopa de Espana to avenge the Champions League final defeat in Lisbon.

Two seasons before in 2012/13, a goal by Radamel Falcao against Espanyol was enough to overcome Europa League elimination from Rubin Kazan.

Atletico‘s weakest return from a European disappointment was in 2016/17 when, after the Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid, Los Rojiblancos drew against Alaves and Real Betis.

They would prove to be an exception as, in the following season, Atletico responded to two draws against Qarabag with away wins at Deportivo La Coruna and Celta Vigo.

This campaign, they bounced back from a 4-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage with a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad.
