River Plate youngster Julian Alvarez, who once had a trial with Real Madrid, has the chance of achieving a dream and play the Copa Libertadores final if finally striker Ignacio Scocco is not fit.

The Cordoba born player, now 18, tried his luck with a month-long test at Madrid when he was 11 and he trained with the La Fabrica.

“I was playing youth tournaments, I was 11 and when I was 13, Madrid could have signed me. To do that it would have been a case of moving all my family and being based there, and I returned to Cordoba,” stated Alvarez.

Before going back he met Di Maria, Higuain and Sergio Ramos amongst other.

Back in Argentina he had a trial at Boca but found his place at River aged 16 and signed his first professional contract this year with a buy-out clause of 15m euros.

He is the top scorer with the River youth and went to the World Cup with the Argentina squad as a chance to get a feel for the atmosphere and he met players including Lionel Messi.

“It was special to be close up with him, he is the best of the best,” he continued.

“It is great to see him in training and see what he does with the ball.

“I like to play and have the ball, to score through the way you play and that comes naturally to me, it is not a cause of pressure. At the same time I am not desperate about scoring but I know strikers have to score.”
