Serie A Came up through Madrid’s academy
Borja Valero came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and admitted that Guti was his idol growing up.
The Inter midfielder took time amid the coronavirus enforced quarantine period to respond to Nerazzurri supporters’ questions.
Borja joined the Real Madrid academy aged just 11, before eventually making his debut for the first team in a Copa del Rey encounter against Ecija.
“I have loved football since I was little, ” he told Inter‘s official channel.
“When I was a child I grew up inspired by Guti, who went through the entire Real Madrid youth system like I did.
“For me, he had impressive quality,” Borja stated.
Guti isn’t the only famous Spaniard whom Borja admires, as tennis star Rafa Nadal also ranks highly in the former Mallorca player’s books.
“It is important to understand how much good sport can give us, having a sporting mentality and applying it to all contexts of life,” he noted.
“I like to play tennis when I can and, for us Spaniards, Rafa Nadal is an example as a player and as a person.
