Napoli go into Sunday’s Serie A clash with Cagliari in search of some consistency, having won four and lost four of their last eight in the league.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side won at Inter in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final last time out, and have beaten Juventus and Lazio since the turn of the year. However, they have also suffered defeats to struggling Lecce and 14th place Fiorentina in recent weeks.

As a result, Napoli sit 11th in Serie A, 12 points off the top four and 11 points off the relegation zone.

On Sunday, they travel to a Cagliari side without a win in their last nine league games. Despite their stuttering form, Rolando Maran’s side still find themselves two points and three places above Napoli in Serie A.

Here’s everything you need know ahead of the Serie A clash.

Radja Nainggolan

Cagliari will be without Radja Nainggolan due to suspension. Leonardo Pavoletti is a long-term absentee after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during his side’s defeat to Genoa, while Marko Rog and Luca Ceppitelli are also sidelined through injury.

Napoli will be missing Kevin Mulcuit, who also suffered an ACL injury in October, while Amin Younes and Faouzi Ghoulam are both absent through injury.

Predicted Lineups

Cagliari Cragno; Pellegrini, Klavan, Pisacane, Farago; Nandez, Cigarini, Ionita; Pedro, Castro, Simeone
Napoli Meret; Rui, Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Hysaj; Ruiz, Demme, Zielinski; Callejon, Milik, Insigne

Head to Head Record

Fabian Ruiz

The two sides have met 29 times, with Napoli winning on 14 occasions, and Cagliari just four.

Cagliari won the most recent encounter between the pair in September, as they scored a dramatic 87th minute winner, before Kadilou Koulibaly saw red for Napoli a minute later.

Cagliari’s win earlier in the season ended a wretched run of results against Napoli. Prior to their 1-0 victory, they had lost seven in a row against Sunday’s opponents.

Recent Form

Fabian Ruiz

After a promising start to the season, Cagliari have endured a torrid last few months in Serie A. Since their dramatic 4-3 win over Sampdoria at the start of December, they have not won in the league, drawing four and losing five.

Napoli registered a surprise win over league leaders Inter in the Copa Italia last time out, having knocked out high flying Lazio in the previous round, before beating Juventus in Serie A. However, consistency has been Napoli’s issue, as they have also slipped to disappointing defeats to Fiorentina and Lecce.

Here’s how the pair have fared in their last five.

Cagliari Napoli
Genoa 1-0 Cagliari (09/02) Inter 0-1 Napoli (12/02)
Cagliari 2-2 Parma (01/02) Napoli 2-3 Lecce (09/02)
Inter 1-1 Cagliari (26/01) Sampdoria 2-4 Napoli (03/02)
Brescia 2-2 Cagliari (19/01) Napoli 2-1 Juventus (26/01)
Inter 4-1 Cagliari (14/01) Napoli 1-0 Lazio (21/01)

Prediction

SSC Napoli v US Lecce - Serie A

Cagliari cannot seem to buy a win at the moment, and Napoli should be expected to take full advantage of the hosts’ poor recent run of form. Confidence should be high in the Napoli camp following their excellent midweek win.

Neither side are short on goals, so an entertaining, high scoring game could be on the cards.

Score Prediction: Cagliari 2-3 Napoli
