Steven Gerrard will be pleased with the resilience of his team, although they’ve barely been out of their own half in the contest. Rangers have to find a way out in the second period to ease the pressure on their backline.

It’s goalless at the break between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park. The home side have dominated the contest, hitting the bar twice, while Allan McGregor has made a couple of sharp saves to keep the scores level. James Forrest hit a rasping effort from distance that took a deflection before rattling the bar, while from the resulting corner Mikael Lustig’s header looped off the woodwork. It has not been the Bhoys’ day in front of goal thus far.

45′ + 1′ OVER! Tierney tees up Brown to go for goal from distance, but he drives his effort over the bar from 25 yards.

45′ There will be one minute of added time.

44′ Goldson allows the ball to bounce in his own box, which has Edouard interested for a second before Allan McGregor comes off his line to gather ahead of the forward.

42′ Lafferty pulls off the back of Boyata in the middle to head at goal from Tavernier’s cross, but he guides his header comfortably wide of the post.

41′ Celtic have dominated the first half, but have not been able to muster the breakthrough. Rodgers will be a frustrated man on the sideline.

39′ SAVE! Tierney gets a yard down the left to whip a cross to the back post. It’s a perfect delivery for Edouard to head at goal from close range, but the forward guides his effort straight at Allan McGregor, who makes a good reaction stop.

O. Édouard

Yellow Card

37′ Edouard is a fraction late on Jack on the edge of the box and he goes into the book.

35′ OFF THE BAR AGAIN! Ntcham whips a dangerous delivery into the middle and Lustig makes a move to guide an effort at goal. He heads his attempt towards the top corner, but it loops up to strike the bar before bouncing away. Callum McGregor on the rebound cannot force the ball back towards the target.

34′ OFF THE BAR! Rangers clear the corner before Forrest lines up a drive from distance. His effort takes a slight deflection before cannoning off the bar and bouncing over. The midfielder struck his effort with power, but Celtic were denied the lead by an inch.

33′ Ejaria loses out on the edge of his own box. Callum McGregor tries to punish the visitors, but Tavernier is well placed to make the block.

31′ Callum McGregor whips another cross into the Rangers box, but the visitors pass the test once again, clearing the initial threat.

B. Barišić

Yellow Card

29′ Barisic goes into the book for catching Forrest late on the left flank.

28′ SAVE! Ntcham bends his effort towards the near post, striking for goal from a tight angle. Allan McGregor gets across his line to punch the ball behind for a corner.

27′ Arfield catches Tierney on the wing and Celtic have another free-kick, this time on the left flank.

25′ SAVE! Callum McGregor bends his free-kick towards goal into a crowd of players in the six-yard box. Allan McGregor watches the ball all the way and commits himself to make the punch away from danger. The Rangers keeper then apparently kicks out at Ajer on the deck, fortunately for him the referee does not see the incident.

24′ Rogic goes down in stages under contact from Ejaria on the right flank. The referee awards Celtic a free-kick, which will be taken by McGregor.

23′ Morelos makes a nuisance of himself once again and the home fans don’t like it, nudging Boyata as he attempts to take control. The referee speaks to the forward, but it’s just a word.

21′ Kent tries to break behind the Celtic backline with a run to the byline. Between Tierney and Ajer, the Bhoys do enough to stop his threat, earning a goal-kick.

19′ Tierney raids into a good position down the left flank. He has space and time to lift a cross into the box, but once again the visitors get men back behind the ball to make the clearance.

18′ McGregor has to be alert at the back to come off his line to help Katic, who struggles with the pace of Edouard from a long ball forward. The keeper controls the ball before clearing into touch.

17′ Morelos is not afraid to put himself about. He concedes a free-kick for pulling the shirt of Ajer in an aerial battle.

15′ CLOSE! Celtic struggle to clear their lines on the edge of the box. The loose ball falls to Jack to strike, but he can only fire his effort narrowly over the bar. Gordon was concerned there.

14′ Ntcham curls a dangerous cross into the box from the set-piece. However, no player takes a gamble in a green and white shirt, allowing the ball to travel through to McGregor.

13′ Ntcham wins a free-kick for the home side with a bustling run. He stands over the ball on the left flank, waiting to take the set-piece.

12′ Celtic have settled in the contest and are moving the ball well, but the Gers as expected are holding firm through the middle.

S. Brown

Yellow Card

10′ Brown is the first man into the book this afternoon, taking out Lafferty in the Rangers half.

9′ Rogic and McGregor probe on the edge of the box, but a strong challenge from Arfield stops the former in his tracks.

7′ There’s pushing and pulling as a delivery from McGregor comes into the box. However, both teams are guilty and the ball eventually works its way out for a goal-kick.

6′ Forrest tests Barisic down the flank and the Celtic man wins a corner, hitting the ball off the legs of the defender.

4′ Lafferty and Lustig battle in the final third, with the resulting free-kick being awarded the way of the home side. It’s going to be interesting between the pair this afternoon – it’s their second confrontation of the game already.

3′ Tierney releases McGregor down the left and he goes for the cross into the box, only to overhit the delivery out for a goal-kick.

2′ Forrest makes a surge into the box and offloads to Edouard on the edge. He tries to carve out space for a strike, but Arfield is there with the recovery to prevent the shot at goal.

1′ We’re underway at Celtic Park.

Celtic have lost three of their last eight league games, having only lost two of their previous 72 top-flight matches.

Rangers have won just one of their last 11 league trips to Celtic Park (drawn four, lost six), a 3-1 victory in October 2010.

Rangers have made two changes to their side from their draw against Ufa during the week. Lafferty and Barisic are given the nod to start the derby, with Flanagan and Candeias dropping to the bench.

Celtic have made three changes from their win over Suduva in the Europa League during the week. Edouard, Rogic and Forrest come into the team in a straight swap with Sinclair, Griffiths and Michael Johnston.

Rangers subs: Joe Worrall, Wes Foderingham, Jon Flanagan, Andrew Halliday, Ross McCrorie, Candeias, Glenn Middleton.

RANGERS (4-3-1-2): Allan McGregor; James Tavernier, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic; Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent; Scott Arfield; Kyle Lafferty, Alfredo Morelos.

Celtic subs: Leigh Griffiths, Scott Sinclair, Cristin Gamboa, Ryan Christie, Scott Bain, Filip Benkovic, Kouassi Eboue.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1): Craig Gordon; Mikael Lustig, Dedryck Boyata, Kristoffer Ajer, Kieran Tierney; Olivier Ntcham, Scott Brown; James Forrest, Tomas Rogic, Callum McGregor; Odsonne Edouard.

Let’s take a look at the two teams this afternoon.

Rangers drew during the week in their Europa League qualifying clash against Ufa, despite the dismissals of Alfredo Morelos and Jon Flanagan. Their league form has been solid, although they conceded a late goal against Motherwell last time out to lose out the victory on the road.

Gerrard has made an immediate impact at Rangers, remaining unbeaten in his 12 games in charge in all competitions. Performances have not been pretty, especially the disciplinary record. However, he has brought a resilience to the club that was lacking in previous seasons.

Celtic will have to move on this season without the services of Moussa Dembele. The striker was outstanding in his two seasons at the club, but he felt that he achieved all he could at Celtic Park, clinching a move to Lyon earlier in the week. Leigh Griffiths, Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair will have to fill the void of the Frenchman’s departure.

The Bhoys for once have not made a dominant start to the season, losing their second game of the campaing 1-0 to Hearts on the road. They’re mid-table six points off the pace of Hearts and will now want to fall further behind. A Dedryck Boyata strike handed the Hoops a victory over Hamilton last time out, but they will have to be flawless this afternoon.

Celtic have dominated the contest in recent years, boasting a nine-game unbeaten record over their rivals. Brendan Rodgers has been imperious since taking the reins at Celtic in the fixture, he will be desperate to maintain his unbeaten record over the Gers.

Steven Gerrard experiences the Old Firm for the first time, taking his side to Celtic Park for the 414th contest between the bitter rivals.

Good morning and welcome to the live commentary of the Scottish Premier League clash between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park.
