Burnley’s short European adventure came to a disappointing end on Thursday evening, with the Premier League side drawing 1-1 with Olympiakos at Turf Moor, a result which sees them bow out at the play-off stages of the Europa League courtesy of a 2-4 aggregate score.

Having lost the first leg 3-1 in Greece last week, it was also going to be a big ask for Burnley to turn the tie around.

However, the Premier League side created enough chances to win both the game and the tie outright, with Sam Vokes missing two great chances in the first-half and then hitting the frame of the goal after the break.

Seven minutes from the end, the Clarets were made to rue their misses, when Daniel Podence produced a cool finish after a quick break from the visitors.

Sub Matej Vydra got one back late on for Burnley after a goalmouth scramble. However, it was too little too late for Sean Dyche’s side, who miss out on joining Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers in the group stages.

Burnley can now get back to focusing on their domestic season, with Manchester United next up at Turf Moor on Sunday.
