Everton closing in on third summer signing
Everton are reportedly closing in on a potential £8million deal for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph as part of their summer rebuild.
The Toffees are in the middle of a very big summer transfer window.
With players such as Nikola Vlasic, Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams and Sandro Ramirez having left the club, Everton’s squad is slowly being trimmed and more will be expected to leave.
Though, they’ve also been linked with moves for a whole host of players.
The Toffees have already brought in both Andre Gomes and Jonas Lössl but have also been linked with moves for Nicolas Pepe, Malcom and Moise Kean in recent weeks.
Now, a new name has appeared, Fabian Delph.
Solid signing or lack of ambition?
According to the Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe, Everton are ‘closing in’ on the signing of Delph.
Bascombe claims ‘manager Marco Silva is ready to make Delph a key addition in a bargain deal, the 29-year-old entering the final year of his current contract at the Etihad.’
It’s then claimed a deal would cost Everton in the region of £8million.
For a solid squad player, that’s a pretty respectable fee.
Delph only featured 11 times in the Premier League last season.
However, he played in a respectable six Champions League games.
With Rodri coming in at Man City, his first-team chances would be nonexistent next season.
As a result, Marco Silva and Everton director of football Marcel Brands have moved to sign Delph.
Bascombe claims that despite a policy of signing young stars, ‘a player of Delph’s pedigree and experience fits the bill to add quality at a good price.’
