A Napoli spokesperson has confirmed that defender Faouzi Ghoulam will be back ‘after the first international break’ in September.

There were concerns last weekend that Ghoulam had damaged his knee again after it flared up following new training exercises.

However, subsequent tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome dispelled those fears and the Algerian was able to go under the knife again.

“Ghoulam? Unlike what someone wrote, he has nothing serious,” Nicola Lombardo told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“He had a fixed structure, which kept his patella together, and now he has stitches. Once these stitches are removed, he can begin preparations.

“He hasn’t trained for a relatively long time, but it can be presumed that he’ll be 100 percent after the first international break of the season.”

Lombardo then assured Alex Meret was ‘close to returning’ from an arm injury, while winger Amin Younes could come back before ‘the end of the year’.

“Meret? It’s a simple operation. He has a fractured arm, which can happen to anyone,” he added.

“A small plate has been applied, but in any case he’s close to returning and he’ll prepare here with us [in Dimaro].

“Younes? Unfortunately he has a more serious injury because he ruptured his Achilles tendon, but he’s here with us. We hope he’ll be available by the end of the year.”
