Sunderland fans have been discussing the impending exit of Paddy McNair, and they all agree they’ve done well to get a decent fee for the young defender.
According to reports, McNair will join Middlesbrough this summer for a fee of around £5m.
The report claims the Northern Irishman has agreed terms with the Riversiders, and underwent his medical on Monday.
McNair, who can play in defence or as a defensive midfielder, made just 16 league appearances in the Championship last season, but was one of the Black Cats’ better performers when he did play, grabbing five goals.
The 23 year-old, who has 20 Northern Ireland caps, joined Sunderland back in 2016 from Manchester United, but injuries have meant he has made just 25 total league appearances across his two seasons on Wearside.
New owner Stewart Donald is expected to lead an overhaul of the Sunderland squad this summer, and the sales of players like McNair and Wahbi Khazri will go a long way to helping rebuild the squad for League One.
Fans have been discussing McNair’s impending exit on Twitter, and most of them agree £5m is good business for a player who has suffered so much from injuries.

Absolutely only plays 1 in 4 games due to being injured if he was worth more than why aren’t more clubs willing to only pay that for him
