It’s unclear to see why Mendes was so unhappy with the result, as Modric, in a lot of a people’s eyes, clearly had a superb year, and was one that deserved to see him claim the award that he did.
The Croatian was absolutely pivotal in helping Real win their third consecutive Champions League title, with his performances at the World Cup with Croatia being the aspect that puts him above every other player this year.
The midfielder played a big role in every game for his country as they reached their first ever World Cup final, losing out to eventually winners France 4-2.
Although Ronaldo did have a superb year himself, scoring a ridiculous amount of goals, a lot of which came in the Champions League, to say he deserved the award over Modric would be a bit of a left-field shout to say the least.
