Tuttosport and AS claim Juventus and ‘super agent’ Jorge Mendes is laying the groundwork for a shock Cristiano Ronaldo transfer to Italy.
This shock move comes on the back of Ronaldo’s release clause reportedly being dropped from a staggering 1 Billion Euros to just 120 million Euros, which would actually make Ronaldo affordable to Juventus.
Juventus have been a dominant force in Italy for some time now. However, one prize that they have been unable to claim for over a decade is the Champions League.
The Italian giants have not won the Champions League since 1996 and as a result are looking to sign top stars that can help them earn the most coveted prize in club football and there is no doubt Ronaldo would be one of those top stars.
Ronaldo was, until yesterday on international duty with Portugal for the 2018 World Cup.
Portugal were drawn in Group B along with Spain, Iran and Morocco and after all of Group B’s games had been played, Portugal would finish second in the group thanks to them conceding a late penalty vs Iran due to a somewhat questionable VAR decision.
As a result of finishing second Ronaldo’s Portugal had to face Group A winners Uruguay in the round of 16 last night.
However, despite finishing second, Ronaldo has been on fire for Portugal at the World Cup.
In Portugal’s first group game vs Spain, Ronaldo earned Portugal a draw when Spain really should have won the game.
The game finished 3-3 with Ronaldo scoring a penalty, superb free-kick and lucky goal for his hattrick.
Ronaldo would also be Portugal’s hero in their second game vs Morocco when he scored the only goal of the game.
But while Ronaldo shone in the group stage, he had a very quiet performance last night vs Uruguay and as a result, Portugal lost 2-1 and are now out of the 2018 World Cup.
One of the greats
As for his club career, there is no question Ronaldo is one of the all-time greats.
Ronaldo moved to Manchester United in 2003 from Sporting for a fee of around £17 million.
He would go on to play 292 games for United, scoring 118 and assisting 68. This excellent record then earned Ronaldo a move to Madrid in 2009 for a fee in the region of £84.6 million.
Since joining Madrid Ronaldo has played 438, scored 450 and assisted 131. As well as winning countless individual and club honours.
Now, however, with Ronaldo seemingly unsettled at Madrid, he could well be on his to Juventus.
