Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

Luka Modric has captured sporting headlines this summer with interest from Inter following excellent performances at the World Cup but now the dust has settled and the Croat remains at Real Madrid.

Four Champions Leagues in six years tells its own story but so far this season he has not been a starter for Madrid.

It was not surprising to see him on the bench for the European Super Cup due to his lack of match practice but more so that he did not begin against Getafe.

Certainly, Julen Lopetegui’s 4-3-3 formation means that there is more economy of space and Toni Kroos and Isco have been the starters. While the third option would appear to be Modric’s instead Casemiro has been chosen.

The three strikers mean that there is little room for manoeuvre for the clash with Girona so it all suggests that he will have to fight for his place.
