Dwight Gayle was easily one of West Brom’s stand out men this season. The forward scored a bucket load of goals but after picking up a red card in their play-off first leg with Aston Villa, was missing for their most important game of the campaign.

And with Albion failing to achieve promotion, The Express & Star have confirmed that Gayle will not return for another spell next term, mainly because of the wages he’s on. Technical Director Luke Dowling urged the fans to trust the club in their decision.

The statement didn’t make good reading for West Brom fans who consequently berated the club after the news was revealed.

One fan demanded that the board was sacked whilst others commented on how they were now on the verge of mediocrity.

A further supporter went as far as saying it would be the worst summer in West Brom history. Another added it would be the reality check some needed.

Gayle scored 24 goals in what was a stellar campaign for the 28-year-old. However, the Baggies will have to try again next term without him.
