Real Madrid Barcelona also interested

Lautaro Martinez is now well on Real Madrid‘s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Inter forward has previously attracted interest from Barcelona, but his price tag prevented a move to the Camp Nou last summer.

The 22-year-old is one of the hottest forwards in Europe this season, with 16 goals in 28 games for Antonio Conte‘s side.

Lautaro‘s release clause is 115 million euros and Real Madrid see him as an ideal replacement for the Karim Benzema, who is now 33 years of age.

However, this depends on Luka Jovic and whether he can prove himself to Los Blancos before the end of the season.

According to Argentinian media outlet TYC Sports, Real Madrid want to pay Lautaro‘s release clause and have already offered him a massive contract.

Despite this, Los Merengues aren’t known for triggering release clauses and prefer to negotiate transfer fees instead.

Real Madrid have been following Lautaro for a while now, since his days with Racing Club in Argentina, and he was an option last summer before Jovic was signed instead.

Barcelona have made signing Lautaro a priority this summer.

They see him as a perfect successor to the 33-year-old Luis Suarez, but financial restrictions could be a problem.

The Catalan club have to generate 120 million euros in sales before June in order to balance their books.

One of the hurdles that Real Madrid could encounter in their pursuit of Lautaro is the fact that he counts as a non-EU player.

Los Blancos are only allowed three non-EU players in their squad – Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, while Reinier Jesus is also on his way to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu – but they are confident that Vinicius can obtain a Spanish passport in the summer, thus freeing up a space for Lautaro.
