Real Madrid A big test
A big week awaits Eder Militao at Real Madrid. The Brazilian played for his country on Tuesday evening in Los Angeles in their loss against Peru and he’ll return to Valdebebas with his eyes firmly set on Paris Saint-Germain.
Zinedine Zidane won’t have Nacho nor Sergio Ramos to call upon for the Champions League opener, with both suspended, meaning Militao is set to debut for Madrid imminently.
The situation suggests that Los Blancos could line up with three at the back at the Parc des Princes and that, in turn, could see it tried against Levante this weekend.
But Zidane probably won’t be able to play the new arrival from the start at the weekend, due to the little time between his return to Spain and the game.
The defender won’t land in the capital until Thursday afternoon and will only have Friday’s training sessions before the game.
So Ramos and Nacho are likely to play against Levante, giving Raphael Varane something of a rest before the trip to Paris.
Militao could be handed some minutes though, with Zidane wanting to give him some rhythm in the side before a crucial European night.
The ex-Porto defender didn’t play in Brazil’s first friendly against Colombia, fulfilling the role of substitute behind Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, but he did get 90 minutes against Peru.
In Paris, Militao will be tasked with marking Edinson Cavani, while new signing Mauro Icardi is also available. Kylian Mbappe is a doubt, while Neymar is suspended.
