Spain Open to a 2020 call-up

Sergio Ramos already has plans in his mind beyond this season, with a summer coming up in which he could participate in Euro 2020 and the Olympic Games.

Reports have surfaced in recent days regarding his alleged desire to go to Japan next summer.

After the 1-1 away draw against Norway, he was asked about this possibility in a post-match interview.

“For any player who has that opportunity, nobody would say no,” said Ramos.

“I think it is too early to talk about the Games, it would be rushed.

“Now I am focused on my club.

“There is a long time left and you will see what happens, but it’s a very nice idea.”

The Real Madrid defender had plenty to do in the game, in what was a record 168th national team appearance.

“The personal side is always secondary, I would have changed it for the victory,” added Ramos.

“Reaching 168 is a reward and a merit, it gives me tremendous pride.

“I get excited every time I wear this shirt.

“That does not change and I hope to do it many more years.”

Reflecting on his side’s performance in Oslo, the centre-back wished they’d been able to seal qualification.

“It was a real shame,” he claimed.

“They took advantage in the final minutes.

“It was important to try to qualify today in order to feel calmer.”
