Atletico Madrid Isn’t focusing on Liverpool yet

Atletico Madrid head into the LaLiga Santander clash with Valencia at somewhat of a crossroad, a victory could see them regain confidence whilst a defeat will drag them further into the dogged battle for Champions League qualification, and Diego Simeone has made clear that his team’s only focus at this time is on Los Che.

The fixture comes with the return of the Champions League on the horizon, and despite Liverpool visiting the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday, Simeone is keen to ensure his players simply look to the next game and no further.

“All our energy and thoughts are being put towards Valencia,” he confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

“I don’t think about Tuesday’s game at this time, I’m not putting any value on it.

“After Valencia, then we’ll look to our next match.”

Valencia have been one of the form teams in Spain since Albert Celades took over, even in the absence of Goncalo Guedes, and Simeone is wary of the dangers his side face.

“It’s a very important match because it’s the one coming next,” he added.

“Valencia at home are very strong with their fans behind them.

“They have important players and we must think about how we can hurt them in such a difficult fixture.”

Alvaro Morata has been facing a battle to return from injury in time to face Liverpool, yet Simeone believes he will actually be able to be involved at Estadio Mestalla.

“Yes, he will come with us,” he intimated.

“We need to win, because this generates momentum and gives a positive feeling.

“Furthermore, it helps you keep improving.”
