England can win the World Cup according to one of their all-time greats, Sir Geoff Hurst, who said that a huge reason the team are doing so well is manager Gareth Southgate.
He noted that Alf Ramsey was vital in England’s legendary team and a good manager is key – something England have arguably struggled to find for the majority of the last couple of decades.
Standard Sport report he said: “The leadership at the top is vital.
“We had a terrific manager in Alf Ramsey, who had a great system and he selected a team that could be successful and had good characters.
“We’ve seen the leadership with Gareth Southgate being very impressive, which has engendered a good team spirit. That seems to be quite evident, with what he says, how the team are celebrating with each other – we’re not seeing any bad stories.
“Where we are today, I would say, categorically, quite clearly, we can win it, without a shadow of doubt.”
It’s not just the players and legends who have hope – the fans do as well, and it’s the most positive England fans have been in a long time and the feelgood factor around the team is taking the country by storm.
It’s by no means an easy game against Croatia, but the way the side have been playing in the knockout rounds isn’t as well as the Croat fans might have liked, whereas England seem to be going from strength to strength in the competition and won’t get a better chance to make the final.
