Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on transfer target Benjamin Pavard as the Stuttgart defender looks set to move to Bayern Munich, according to German publication SWR Sport.

What’s the story?

The World Cup winner came to global prominence after scoring a wonder goal against Argentina in the World Cup Round of 16.

The 22-year-old joined Stuttgart two years ago and is comfortable playing either as a centre-back or right-back, and following his excellent World Cup performances, he was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Now it appears he is set to be snapped up by Bayern Munich who have reportedly enacted his release clause of £31.2million.

Missed opportunity

With Toby Alderweireld’s time at White Hart Lane nearing its end, Tottenham will need defensive reinforcements for the season ahead, and Pavard would make a great option for Maurichio Pochettino.

It’s hard to compete with the might of Bayern Munich but Pavard would have been well-suited to Tottenham, comfortable on the ball and joining attacks but very reliable in defence.

It’s another blow for Pochettino whose transfer window hasn’t really got up and running yet.
