Rumours continue to swirl that Frenkie de Jong may move to Barcelona this transfer window, yet Ajax sporting director, and former Barcelona player, Marc Overmars, is adamant that the player should stay put.
Despite a desire from De Jong to move to the Camp Nou, the Eredivisie club have been reluctant to sell one of their key pieces for this upcoming season.
Speaking to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Overmars briefly touched on the player’s future.
“Let them [any interested clubs] come back next year,” he said.
“Let the players play 40 games with Ajax this year.
“They’ll not be allowed to leave, even for crazy amounts.”
Other clubs have also inquired about Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt, however it looks like the sporting director has closed the door on any of their departures.
