Italy midfielder Marco Verratti is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain worth €12m a season.

According to Calciomercato.com, talks are at a ‘very advanced’ stage to extend Verratti’s deal until 2024 and almost double his current €7m salary.

The website adds he has also been promised the captain’s armband, with Thiago Silva turning 35 later this month and out of contract next summer.

The 26-year-old joined PSG from Pescara in 2012 and has gone on to make almost 300 appearances for the French giants, winning six Ligue 1 titles.

He has 34 caps and three goals for Italy but has never played in Serie A.
